Joseph Darcy Heyer, founder of The Larger Context, worked in commercial banking before rethinking his career path and returning to university. Graduate studies launched his 30+ year professional journey in career and education counseling. He served as guidance director at an international school in Ecuador, high school guidance director in Vermont, and TRIO counselor in the Career and Education Outreach program of Vermont Student Assistance Corporation.

Joe's favorite projects were creating a high school leadership development and student orientation program, growing a library for state-wide lending, advancing foster youth issues for greater college access, consulting with schools on comprehensive career development programming, and counseling with new American youth and their families from around the world. He has guided students on college visits around New York, New England, and Quebec for over 20 years. He has presented at state, regional, national, and international conferences on a range of education related topics.

Joe is a member of Vermont School Counselors Association - VTSCA, American School Counselors Association - ASCA, American Society for Training and Development - ASTD, and Overseas Association for College Admissions Counseling - OACAC. Additionally, he holds certification by the Emily Post Institute as a business etiquette trainer.

Joe and his talented wife have two daughters. One earned her degree from a Canadian university; the other studied abroad for a semester in Australia and took a short-course in England.

Sarah Strouse Curry, is collaborating with Joe in offering the International Student Program. Sarah is an International Education Specialist, former Director of International Education at the University of Vermont, and a critical consultant to colleges and universities on programming, policies, and administration.

While at UVM, Sarah also served as a consultant to the Open Society Institute's Undergraduate Exchange Program, interviewing scholarship applicants for their programs throughout Eastern Europe. She has a longstanding relationship with NAFSA: Association of International Educators, where she has served as the Vermont State Rep, Chair of NAFSA Region XI, Coach in the NAFSA Academy, and currently serves on the NAFSA Trainer Corps.

Sarah studied abroad in Norwich, England and worked in Paris, France after completing her BA in American Studies. She subsequently completed her MA in Education.
